"Meet the Grandparents"

Grandparents are spending more and more on their grandkids.

Daddy can I have one? More like Grandpa can I have one!

A conference in New York in December was completely dedicated to deciphering trends for marketing to grandparents. When I got wind of this well-named conference, I started to dig into this market..Crazy! It seems that this demographic has become a huge market for all types of goods and services, from education trusts, to toys, clothes, games, and even travel. And boy, do Grandparents spend! A new study by Focalyst suggests that new grandparents spend, on average $1700 per new addition to the family (article).

This becomes particularly interesting to e-marketers as this segment of the market grows with more and more Baby Boomers becoming grandparents. E-marketers have (obviously) started dedicating their time to figuring out the best ways to reach this group, and with so much spending who wouldn’t want to have access to this market! For a full list of tips for marketing to this group, check out the MarketingSherpa article.
